Can it stop AK rounds?
Yes, the AIQ AIR - NIJ Level III RF2 chest plate is designed to stop AK rounds. Specifically, it has been tested against 7.62x54 rounds, which are commonly used in Russian Dragunov rifles and similar to the 7.62x39 rounds fired by AK-47 rifles. The plate meets and exceeds NIJ Level III standards, meaning it can stop multiple hits from these types of rounds, offering reliable protection against AK-47 fire.
What calibers can't it stop?
The AIQ AIR, and PAD - NIJ Level III FR2 chest plate is designed to stop standard rifle rounds, including those from AK-47s (7.62x39) and 5.56x45 NATO rounds. However, there are certain calibers it cannot stop effectively, particularly those that exceed NIJ Level III standards. These include Armor-Piercing Rifle Rounds: NIJ Level III RF2 plates are not rated to stop armor-piercing rounds such as 7.62x63mm (30-06) M2 AP or 7.62x51 M993 AP, which are typically handled by NIJ Level IV plates. Higher-Caliber Rounds: Large-caliber rounds like .338 Lapua Magnum or .50 BMG will penetrate NIJ Level III plates. These rounds have much higher energy and are designed to pierce armor of be used in anti-material rifles. Threats from these higher-velocity or armor-piercing rounds require a plate rated at NIJ Level IV would be necessary.
